Palo santo – also known as holy wood – is a 100% natural incense made from the wood of the South American Bursera graveolens tree, prized for its unique and captivating aroma. This package contains 50 g of carefully selected premium-quality sticks, ideal for energy cleansing, meditation, and everyday relaxation.
Before packaging, the wood is naturally aged for several years, allowing essential oils and resins to develop fully. The scent is warm and woody, with subtle citrus and mint notes – gentle and pleasant, without the sharpness of harsh smoke. The essential oil is primarily composed of limonene (42–68%), which gives it its distinctive citrus note, along with myrcene and menthofuran, which add earthy and herbal undertones.
A single stick can be used multiple times (typically 5–10 uses). The entire 50 g package will last a month or more with regular use.
Light one end of the stick and let it catch fire properly, then blow out the flame. The wood will begin to smolder and release a gentle, fragrant smoke. Ideal for energy cleansing of spaces, meditation and yoga, evening relaxation, and creating a pleasant atmosphere. It is also commonly used to repel insects.
The wood comes in an airtight resealable bag. Keep the sticks inside the bag – this prevents the scent from fading and keeps them aromatic for longer. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Genuine holy wood has a natural scent that develops gradually and is never overpowering or artificial. The sticks vary in color and have natural imperfections and visible growth rings. Occasionally you may find small wormholes – a good sign that the wood is authentic and untreated.
Any kind of smoke – not just palo santo – can irritate the respiratory tract, especially in sensitive individuals such as children, pregnant women, and people with respiratory conditions. In these cases, it is best to avoid it. Always ensure proper ventilation and never leave a burning stick unattended.
Palo santo smoke may cause discomfort for some animals, particularly cats, birds, and pets with sensitive respiratory systems. Always use it in well-ventilated areas, keep sticks away from pets, and consult your veterinarian if you have concerns.
Store palo santo in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture to preserve its aroma and quality. If the wood is exposed to humidity or light, it may become harder to light and lose its scent intensity.
Natural wood does not burn like regular incense sticks – when you light palo santo, it typically smolders briefly and then goes out on its own. You can simply relight it when needed. A proper lighting technique (letting the flame catch fire properly before blowing it out) helps it smolder longer.
The burning time depends on the thickness and quality of the wood, as well as how you use it. A single stick can typically be used multiple times since the wood and its aromatic resins smolder very slowly and the stick goes out on its own after a few minutes.
