Light the end of the stick and let the flame burn for a short time. Then blow it out so the stick begins to smoulder and release fragrant smoke. Waive the smoke around the space or around the body for energetic cleansing. If the stick is tightly bound, blow more strongly to keep it smouldering.
Warning: Always use a fireproof bowl (such as a shell or ceramic dish) and sand for performing the ritual. If you do not use the entire stick, ensure it is completely extinguished in the sand before storing it.
