Origin and Tradition of Jala Neti

Jala Neti is one of the six purification techniques known as Shatkarma, described in the ancient yogic text Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The word “Jala” means water, and “Neti” means nasal cleansing. Traditionally, Neti pots were made of clay or copper; today, ceramic pots are widely used around the world as a natural method for maintaining healthy breathing.

How to Perform Jala Neti

1. Fill the pot with warm water (body temperature) that is microbiologically safe and free of chlorine and fluoride. Add half a teaspoon of salt and stir well.
2. Lean your head forward and slightly to the side. Place the spout gently into one nostril and slowly pour the water so that it flows out through the other nostril.
3. Breathe calmly through your mouth during the process.
4. Repeat the procedure on the other nostril.
5. At the end, gently blow out any remaining water from the sinuses using appropriate head movements, as described in the blog instructions.
6. Rinse the pot thoroughly after use and allow it to dry completely.
