Kewra (keora or kewda) is an essential oil distilled from the male flower of the fragrant pine, native to Tropical Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australasia. The oil is widely used in these regions as a flavoring agent.

Sustainability and Fair Trade

Holy Lama products are predominantly made from natural ingredients, avoiding harsh chemicals or synthetics. Their body care products are vegan, GMO-free, handmade, and not tested on animals. Wherever possible, sustainable materials are used for packaging. Less than 1% waste is produced during manufacturing, and all waste is repurposed as fuel or animal feed, resulting in an exceptionally low carbon footprint.

Raw materials are sourced primarily from local farmers in Kerala and the rest of India, building upon over seven decades of strong relationships with suppliers. The company operates on a no-credit principle – all farmers and suppliers are paid immediately, and factory staff receive fair wages.

Women-Led Enterprise

Holy Lama is recognized in Kerala as a government-approved women’s enterprise, where over 80% of employees are women. Many come from disadvantaged backgrounds (e.g., widows or women abandoned by partners) and are given the opportunity to work, gain independence, and thrive.
