Origin and characteristics of Rudraksha seeds

Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) are seeds from the fruit of an evergreen, fast-growing tree that reaches a height of 10 to 30 metres. Its natural habitat extends from the lowlands of the Ganges River to the foothills of the Himalayas. Each bead is natural and unique, giving every mala an authentic character.

Spiritual meaning

The name Rudraksha originates from Sanskrit and combines the words Rudra (Lord Shiva) and Aksha (eye). According to tradition, the Rudraksha tree grew from Shiva’s tears that fell to the Earth after long periods of deep meditation. The seeds are traditionally associated with protective and balancing qualities and with support for spiritual growth.

The number of mukhis (faces) on each seed also plays an important role. The most common are five-faced seeds, which symbolise the five elements and are associated with mental clarity, stability and inner strength.

Using a meditation mala

A mala is used as a tool for meditation and mantra repetition, but it can also be worn as a necklace. It is suitable for everyone, regardless of spiritual tradition. Before sleep, it is recommended to place the mala in a calm, dedicated space and to treat it with respect in order to preserve its symbolic and energetic significance.
